I just got the newly RC1 installed and everything running fine. It doesnt look like ATi has released drivers yet for RC1, just beta 3.

So I downloaded the beta 3 drivers and tried to install them, but I get a "INF file is missing" error, then it just skips the driver installation and installs the control panel.

Any ideas?

Have you tried extracting the files from the .exe putting them in a folder then doing an old fashioned manual install from the hardware manager?

Someone should make a sticky for this type of thing if they get a second, so we don't get this question a lot.

Ok guys, where am I going wrong here

" For this release candidate version of the product only, turn off the operating system?s check for the suffix by creating the following registry value: HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionSetup: REG_DWORD: DisableDecoratedModelsRequirement
The registry must be set to a non-zero value. For example, if set this value to 1 (restart), you will be able to install drivers with .inf files on x64-based operating systems. "

I followed the HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionSetup path exactly, double checked, tripple checked.

Right clicked created a new REG_DWORD named DisableDecoratedModelsRequirement and set the value to 1.

I restarted, tried installing the drivers again and

Thunk.exe
INF file is Missing

I havent tried that second way because I dont know what the heck im doing in the INF file.

none of this would be a problem if I could just get regular Windows XP pro to load on my system.

I tried installing WindowsXP Pro (regular) and when It gets to the black Windows loading screen it just restarts itself, I was able to boot up in Safemode. Strangely I dont have this problem when im running Windows XP Pro 64bit RC1 OS.

Any ideas?

Cool n Quiet is the only thing I can think of...that causes problems with many systems. Make sure its enabled.

Also try a BIOS update, sounds like there is a problem somewhere...and a BIOS update usually helps :)

Ok i've tried every version i could get my grubby little hands on (for testing purposes of course) :wink:

And this is what i have found in rc1 xp/2003 ...they work fine under ide pata drives but as soon as i load my sata f6 disk i get the same as you (using 1218 now). Maybe this is the reason it is not on the cpp yet (the raid drivers need updating)

OK well I dont feel so goofy afterall. I have rewritten this stinkin inf file a dozeways from sunday for my SATA raid controller. The only way I can get it to install is as is and even though its installing I dont think its working as I get a continous reboot. He is the origianal if someone who has done this and got it to work can give a better example than M$ did as it stinks.

[Disks]
d1 = "VIA Serial ATA RAID Controller Driver", X64viasraid.inf, X64

[Defaults]

scsi = VIARAID_VT3149_X64

[scsi]
VIARAID_VT3149_X64 = "VIA Serial ATA RAID Controller (AMD 64-bit), NTamd64"

[Files.scsi.VIARAID_VT3149_X64]
driver = d1, viasraid.sys, viasraid
inf = d1, viasraid.inf

[HardwareIds.scsi.VIARAID_VT3149_X64.Ntamd64
id = "PCIVEN_1106&DEV_3149","viasraid"

[Config.viasraid]
value = ParametersPnpInterface, "5", REG_DWORD, 1

The edit in red seems like it follows most closely what M$ is saying and it takes the driver and looks like it loads but when you attempt to install it cant find the sata raidO array. If left as is it finds it and installs it but then it wont boot after setup is done. Go figure! Why would they make a stupid change like this just when all of the drivers were getting ready and working beautifully? Mkaes no sense to me. The reasoning was for a descriptor but in previous versions when you attempted to install anything but a good driver it would give an error message that the driver is not compatible so what is this crap about anyhow?

EDIT: This is not the problem. Its taking the raid drivers just fine as is and I can watch them load in safe mode. Its the acpitbl.dat that hangs and I have replaced that driver with the one from 1218 and still get the same results. Nada I will start a new thread so I dont trash up this one.

Good question... Has anyone with a VIA based board gotten RC1 working with a raid array?

My NVIDIA system works beautifully with RC1 so far, so it must be the VIA drivers/system not liking RC1... If I had a VIA system here I would gladly figure it out for you but I do not... sorry.

Can someone please try and help Rob Parmley?

I'll have a go at installing it on my RAID array (I've got a via/promise chipset) when it finally comes out on the CPP release, but I don't want to be installing OS's all over the place until then.

I have an Asus A8V that I can try this on. It has a beta BIOS on it, but might not make a difference. It will be this evening before I am able to do this, though.

I finally got a chance to try this out on an A8V board. It has a VIA RAID controller on the motherboard

PCIVEN_1106&DEV_3149&SUBSYS_80ED1043&REV_803&267A616A&0&78

The F6 driver installed just fine. The OS also installed without a hitch.

Your entries in the .INF file are a little off, though.

You need:

[Manufacturer]
%VIA%=VIA,NTamd64

[VIA.NTamd64]
%PCIVEN_1106&DEV_3249.DeviceDesc% = viamraid , PCIVEN_1106&DEV_3249
%PCIVEN_1106&DEV_3149.DeviceDesc% = viamraid , PCIVEN_1106&DEV_3149
%PCIVEN_1106&DEV_3164.DeviceDesc% = viamraid , PCIVEN_1106&DEV_3164

right at the top of the INF
